How Oils REALLY Affect our Emotions

If you’re a part of our oily fam, you know the effect essential oils have on our emotions is something I’m super passionate about. When I first got started with young living, I thought that these oils being able to do anything except make my apartment smell good was some hippie voodoo someone was trying to sell my to take my money. Another culprit of the “placebo effect.” But then one day I read an article about frequencies & emotions & I began to look into the science behind it all- how our brains & bodies store emotions, how the only way we can gain access those feelings and past traumas is through scent, how when we don’t access them we let them harbor and they take residence in parts of our physical body, causing physical issues. Let me explain this a little more as simply as I can. 

  • Our emotions can be broken down into 2 categories: Positive “love-based” emotions- things like love, joy, confidence, forgiveness, compassion, happiness, etc. & also negative “fear-based” emotions- things like fear, anger, anxiety, worry, stress, etc. When we’re born, we aren’t naturally drawn to respond to things with “fear”- but as we observe and experience life around us, it becomes a common theme.

  • The problem with this (besides the obvious) is that our emotions have a stronghold over much more than just our mental state. Think about this for a second- when you’re worried, how many times do digestive issues follow? How about when you’re stressed/anxious? Do you feel a racing in your chest? This is because every emotion is stored in a specific area of corresponding “energy” in our body. Anger is stored in our liver, grief in our lungs, worry in our stomach, stress/anxiety in our hearts, and many more. When we’re constantly experiencing negative & fear-based emotions with no release, toxic responses behind to form in our body. Things like migraines, hypertension, allergies, cancer, chronic pain, and many more bad things.

  • So where do oils come in? There is a section of our brain called the limbic system which stores our amygdala. This is where we process our emotions and feelings. There is only one way we can “access” this section of our brain and that’s through smell- how cool right? When we diffuse, inhale, apply essential oils- our amygdala is accessed & we’re able to process our emotions in a healthy way. How? Because oils have frequencies too (the higher the quality the higher the frequency which is why we’re teal young living all the way) & they help raise that low frequency we’re experiencing. Combine those amazing aromatic properties with applying them to certain points in our body & were able to release that negativity & emotional trauma from our cells to not only helps us feel better emotionally, but improves our overall health, too

I’m not here to make any claims and tell you that if you apply an oil when you’re angry that it’s going to cure your lung disease- that’s not how it works. What I am here to tell you is that these bottles of plant juice are p o w e r f u l and the use for them goes way beyond what we expect. They affect our cells, our brain, & how our body works. Maybe you’ve been struggling for while, looking for a release from the emotional baggage you’ve been carrying for so many years, these oils have real properties that can support you. & there are so many ways to use them! Diffusing them in your space, making blends and applying them to your body, or just opening up a bottle and inhaling them. You can’t mess it up; because at the end of the day, it’s pure unaltered plant juice inside our bottles. Just pick one up & watch it work it’s magic.
